About our company

Luisa Translating Bureau

was founded in Tartu in 1992. It has branches in Tartu (Lai 11/13) and Tallinn (Ahtri 6a).
Luisa is a member of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a founding member of the Association of Estonian Translation Companies.
Luisa is based on private capital and engaged in the provision of written and oral translation services.

In November 2007 Luisa Translating Bureau passed a quality management audit and was awarded the ISO 9001:2000 certificate. In the course of a successful repeat audit in November 2009 we adopted the ISO 9001:2008 standard, which came into effect in January 2009. Luisa now operates on the basis of the updated quality management system, meeting all of the requirements of the latest standard.
The ISO quality management system was also integrated with the European standard EVS–EN 15038:2006, translated into Estonian in 2007, which establishes requirements for translation services.

Luisa’s four main areas of translation became clear during its early years of operation: law, economy/banking, technology and medicine. In recent years European Union texts have become our fifth main area of translation. In total we provide translations in around 30 different subject areas.

Specialists with relevant higher education and experience or language specialists carry out translations in these areas in cooperation with proofreaders. To ensure high quality in our translations, we stick to the recognised principle of translating into your native language. The final touches are applied to texts by translators, proofreaders and editors who are native speakers of the relevant languages.
Our team consists of 16 administrative employees, with the number of full-time and contractual partners (translators, interpreters, proofreaders and editors) exceeding 200. We most often translate into English, Russian, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Finnish and German. In total, we provide translation and interpretation services in 50 languages.

Project management and quality

Receipt of orders and further organisational work is divided between customer service employees and project managers. Experienced translators, proofreaders/editors and professional service staff also play their part in ensuring effective work of the highest quality. We consider it very important that our entire team ensures the confidentiality of information contained in translated materials, as this allows us to provide our customers with a trustworthy service.
We have been using the Trados translation support programme (www.trados.com) since August 2000. Trados is widely used in translation companies around the world as translation support software. Working with the programme makes it possible to maintain the consistency of the terminology in translated texts. This is guaranteed by a translation memory that is constantly updated in the translation process as performed by translators, proofreaders and editors as well as customers.
